Description
This abstract piece is of a closeup of birch bark with a wave starting to crash over the top.
I ventured to Michigan's UP for an art festival in Marquette and the days after I explored the Keweenaw Peninsula, in hopes of a peaceful inspiring place as well as birch trees. I found both but instead of an upright birch tree, I came across this one washed up on the shore of Lake Superior, near Eagle River, Michigan. I was amazed by it. The colors from the decaying bark in Superior's chilly water and the linear peelings of the bark shone beautifully in the sun. Anticipating the waves, I perched down close and created "Water & Birch." This piece is great on luster photographic paper. With its abstract qualities, it is stunning on aluminum.
